Shopping, Savoring, Superbowling

Gap Ponte Pocket Dress (still in stores, want this contrast version) :: Pink Leopard Scarf via eBay (similar) :: HUE Tights :: Sole Society Addison Boots in Army Green (click for $25 off via my referral link, splurge, similar) :: Marc Jacobs Amy Watch in Rose Gold (gifted, pretty option) :: Forever 21 Pyramid Bracelet (splurge)

My Saturday:

1. Repeat of this oh-so-comfy Gap dress that I wore just last week. Best $17 clearance buy in a while. Saw a few hagglers still in stores, so call their CS so they can track one down for you. I'm waiting for the contrast version to get marked down more because it's really that easy to wear all day.

2. Shopped most of the morning & early afternoon for Husband's lengthy list of attire needed for diplomatic functions during his overseas trip. He doesn't want to take his nice clothes/shoes and ruin them in the region he'll be in for half a year, so we had to stock up on cheaper dress shirts, suits, shoes (four!), socks, the works. He assures me that they're needed because the local conditions will annihilate anything of higher quality, but he still managed to sneak an obnoxiously orange, straight-from-Guadalajara, zip up, Mexican wedding shirt into the mix. Yes, I cringed just as hard as you. Menudo must be jealous.

4.Was briefly comforted by a delicious lunch of Thai fried rice/tofu pad thai/chicken basil stir fry while out and about. As I was furiously chewing on the noodles (bc I eyed Husband gobbling just as fast so he could beat me to the last serving of the super tasty pad thai), I slowed down to just simply revel in the delight that is my little family. We're not especially hipster about anything and mostly do normal, family-ish things, but even sharing a simple meal in a cozy mom-and-pop hole in the wall seemed magical to me. I don't ever take my time with my Husband for granted, and knowing he'll be headed off to do god-knows-what for 179 days makes me, all at once, sullen, appreciative, and a lot apprehensive and worried for him. Anyway, I can have difficulty savoring the present, and I was glad I was cognizant enough to cherish my everyday memories today.

5. The upside of all the boring man-stuff shopping (only neutrals! No weird colored polos! I'm not wearing slim fit anything!): Husband snatched these from my claws at checkout and bought them for me (yes, I know there isn't a difference financially, but still a sweet gesture):

Ann Klein Billing Boot (black suede, cognac leather, black leather)

I was ready to place these back on the shelf since I don't need them at all, but I must have been admiring their style and seeming functionality for longer than necessary, because Husband will be the first to announce that I need a shoe intervention. Ha. These were marked down to $26, not a bad price considering they're still online for around $90-$130. These were purchased at Marshall's, so your local store may have them as well. Coincidentally, Gigi had them featured on her new shoe blog, A Thousand Sixty Pairs (love the nod to Imelda!), so check out her blog if you're a shoe hound like me.

6. Call me a bitter Patriots fan, but I'm looking forward to the local beer, cocktail meatballs, wings, spinach dip, and cinnamon rolls more than the game itself. Okay, maybe the commercials are worth it too. And I guess I'll glumly root for the 49ers. Hmph.

Hodgepodge weekend, hodgepodge post. My brain is fried from a long week.

  1. Ok, when that contrast version goes on sale can you let me know? BECAUSE I WANT IT.

And ugh, I do not envy you for one second that your husband is being deployed overseas. That does not sound like fun at all.

    1. I will keep my eye on the dress- hopefully, the new arrivals bump down the price on them. Husband is doing secret work things, so I worry a lot these days.
