Today, I'm linking up over at Blue Paper Lanterns for Kimmie's "Oh, This Old Thing?" post. A day late, but go check it out and link up too!
My old item in my outfit is the Gap leather bag that is a bittersweet reminder of the quality of retailers past. It's probably the oldest item in my closet next to my favorite, ratty, holey pajama pants (husband threatens to chuck them every week, I screech that I can't quit them). My sister originally purchased this around 10(!) years ago, and I remember the sadness I felt when I couldn't find another. Lucky for me, she passed it on to me, and I still use it every once in a while, especially during travel. The leather and craftsmanship is stellar for a mall brand bag, and I definitely don't see similar quality anymore at most mall stores. It's got a lot of road trip/street fest/dive bar night memories, and I'm not sure I could ever sell or give it away. I wish I paired it with a skirt and pretty blouse, but snow and ice necessitated a more practical styling today.
Speaking of sis, she and her fiancé left this morning to head back to Savannah, and I miss them already. I'll be the first to admit that I've given the side eye to more than a few beaus of hers, and it's a fantastic feeling watching your sister so content with a kind, warm partner. Of course, Husband and D spent the whole weekend comparing "sister notes," and they're now bonded for life due to their mutual lives of servitude. Ha! I'm looking forward to a trip home in April to see them both again, and also to help them with a few wedding appointments. She finally found a dress, and I'm still searching fruitlessly for mine.
What is your favorite and/or oldest item in your closet and how often do you reach for it?
Love this bag! and yes, uh, 10 years I was in college and working at the Gap (ugh, feel so old) so I remember their stuff was pretty good quality. And they used to have the best stuff on on super clearance, for like $1! I remember buying more than one pair of pants for $1 or $2 a piece (without employee discount), and a leather belt that I have was $1 as well. These days the cheapest thing in clearance section is like, $19.99.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, love this outfit! Thanks for linking up! :)
yay for a beau you approve of! her wedding dress is spectacular!!
ReplyDeletetoday's outfit is so fun! love the jacket and the purse! xox P
That's a great bag - def looks like a vintage piece and not just Gap!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite old item would have to be my pink sweater for VS.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bag! I agree with Lisa - looks like a great vintage piece. My oldest closet item are a pair of sandals that are 15+ years old. I wear them almost everyday in the summer to this day. I will cry if I ever lose / break / ruin them.
ReplyDeleteThis link up has just been brilliant. I've loved seeing everybody's outfits.
ReplyDeleteThat bag is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful bag! I agree with you about the quality of retailers past. I was once in a BR store and the woman asked me where I bought my blouse. The look on her face when I told her it was BR from 8 years back was awesome! But that is also why I have a HUGE problem with JCrew thinking they are a designer store with $700 skirts! I want to scream, "No JCrew! You are just another mall retailer like BR, and Ann Taylor! Get real!" LOL, sorry for the rant.
ReplyDeleteAll that to say, I love your bag and I feel your pain about quality just not being the same anymore.
