Sole Society Kelly Wedge & Site Review

source via

I ordered from Sole Society for the first time a couple of weeks ago after spying these leopard Kelly wedges somewhere online. My other leopard wedges passed away a few months ago, and I wanted a pointed toe, ponyhair wedge this time around. I was hesitant to sign up my email address, as I'm not interested in shoe clubs that charge you monthly "credit fees," so I was relieved to find that Sole Society no longer requires monthly charges. As I had to take a guess on sizing due to a complete lack of reviews available online, I thought I'd post a short review on this particular style.

Kelly
Wedge in Leopard, $59.95

The lighter patches on these shoes look, well, a lot lighter in the stock photo, but the paler whitish area is darker in real life. It makes the spots less jarring, and the outer upper is ponyhair material. The wedge itself measures at approximately 4 inches, making these more practical for everyday wear but not as convenient as some of my 3.5 inch wedges. I wear between an 8.5 (mostly sandals) and a 9, so I made allowances for the pointed toes and ordered a 9. It was the right call, as the shoes feel comfortable without my toes pinching, but there is a tiny gap at the heel. Not terribly noticeable, but I thought I'd mention it. An 8.5 would definitely be too tight in the toebox for me; the size 9 shoe measures 8.75 inches for reference. As for the width, my feet are on the narrower side of medium width, and my opinion is that these are a true medium width shoe; if your feet tend to be wider, I'd suggest going up in size.

I just got these delivered this week, so I haven't worn them for hours on end, but my feet didn't slope forward awkwardly when I tried them on, and they feel pretty good, for the lack of a better word, on my feet for now. I will update when I wear them for at least a few hours.

I also want to mention that if pointed toes aren't for you, I spotted this round toe Parker style online as well (I'd order my usual 8.5 for these):

Parker Wedge in Leopard, $59.95

Sole Society Kelly Wedge in Adobe, $49.95 (sold out except for sizes 10, 11 but maybe they will restock)

Stocked with a promo code, I also ordered the same wedges in the Adobe colorway. I couldn't quite capture the IRL color of these, but they are darker than the stock photo with more of a rose/taupe tone than shown in my own photos. It's a lovely nude, not too light or dark, and the measurements were the same as the Leopard colorway. I can't say that this speaks for the overall manufacturing quality of Sole Society, but it did please me that there were no sizing discrepancies in this particular order. The Kelly wedge is also available in black leather as well as a deep burgundy colorway. Must. Resist. Ordering. Them. All.

Overall, the quality is an 8/10 for this price range of women's shoes. The craftsmanship certainly is not what you'd demand for heels $200+, but the quality is similar to Nine West and Zara, with a slightly lower price point and a better comfort level (from initial try-on). Throw in a $25 off incentive, and these are fantastic for $25-$35. I have no idea how well they'll wear or last me, but my expectation scale is different for shoes under $50, and these do seem better made than its fellow price peers. Interesting factoid: Nordstrom owns this company, as it was a Hautelook startup, which is owned by Nordy's. I also like that their leather options are just that, real leather. It's getting harder to come by that these days for shoes under $75. FYI, Shipping & Exchanges are free, Return Shipping is also free, BUT Sole Society will charge a $7.95 restocking fee for returns that are not exchanges. Shipping, by the way, is from Los Angeles and took approximately 5 days, with the free shipping option, to Colorado.

I'll be ordering again from Sole Society, now that I have a better idea of sizing. I did also order a pair of leopard booties that will hopefully fit and look as well as these wedges, and if I return them at all, it'll be because I didn't get up the nerve to wear them to school drop off. Will review those in a short blurb when I receive them.

If you'd like $25 off your first order at Sole Society, click my referral link HERE. They really do have a great collection of wearable and stylish sweets for your feet - flats, wedges, pumps, sandals, boots and more, most priced between $39.95-$69.95. I already have my next pair in mind on my wishlist, but they release new styles almost every day, so order sooner rather than later if you really like something.

Have you ordered from Sole Society?

  1. The new blog design and those leopard wedges are gorgeous! I haven't tried Sole Society because I'm hesitant about online shoe shopping. My feet are...demanding? They are large, wide, and get cranky in uncomfortable shoes. They are little (big) divas, lol

    1. Thanks! I end up returning 80% of online shoe orders too, but I've been pleased with Sole Society so far.

  2. I have noticed that both Sole Society and ShoeDazzle no longer require monthly subscriptions, which is what turned me off to them in the first place.

That said, my favorite online shoe purchases are from Payless! I buy the American Eagle flats there, and since I have experience with that size/brand, I know I can safely order online without issue. I love Payless because aside from boots I don't really invest in shoes, and I'm known to donate or toss at will after a season!
