Blog Botox & Back to School Retro

NOTE: Thanks to Linda of Little Tin Soldier, this blog has received a seriously needed round of e-botox and rejuvenation. I spent an embarrassing amount of time figuring out installation, my back has pretty much locked in the hunched-over-my-laptop posture, and I need to go back and fix a couple of bugs, but I really adore it, and I hope I didn't utterly ruin Linda's work too much with my novice computer skillz. Husband also happened to take the shiny, easy, laptop overseas with him, so imagine the laborious effort needed to install on an eight (yes, I said eight) year old crone of a computer. I couldn't use my iPad, so it was painstakingly slooooow. So worth it though.

Linda was incredibly creative with ideas, reasonable with pricing, patient with an undecisive me, and receptive to my humble opinions. I highly recommend checking out her blog for the link to her etsy shop. This is the photo she used to draw a paper doll me in my header:

She completely elevated my look in my paper doll image, and thank you, Linda! You took this blog from high school wallflower to the belle of the ball, that's for dang sure.

After a lengthy winter break, Baby Warrior returned to school today, ready to scuffle with his school sweetheart (not to confuse her with his off duty main squeeze, player player) and spread glitter and cheer all over his classroom. If you don't have a two year old, try to imagine the warring emotions of sadness and relief that trickled through my heart this morning. I really enjoyed having him home during the holidays, but I can't say that having that "me" time a few mornings a week isn't downright necessary enjoyable.

What isn't enjoyable was waking up earlier for school. As school days are the definite days in the week that I venture out from my house I may be a shut-in, I try to make an effort in looking nice. I'm not sure at what age kids start getting embarrassed by their parents these days, but they seem to mature ever so much more quickly, so I like to pull out skirts and such frequently (we won't talk about this fiasco though).

Originally purchased the skirt in a larger size, thinking I could alter the elastic waistband and slim the sides myself, but not only did I end up passing that baton to my sister, the skirt did not end up with pretty results. I reordered this off eBay since it's an older style, and the old skirt has been gifted to a sewing extraordinaire for salvaging and redemption. I have to say that I've preferred plaid/tartan throughout much of my life, as I grew up with a posse of prep-tastic amigas, so this felt like a rendition from 8th grade, minus the Bass pennyloafers polished to an obnoxious level of shine. I guess fashion is cyclical, but I really would prefer not to see Hypercolor shirts come back, thanks.

Lastly, I have a tiny worry I may have ripped off my look from her today:

Plaid is so hard to get right, no matter how much of it may hang on one's closet.

Do you have any favorite trends from back in the day? What do you think of the Caroline's Day's new facelift?

Short listed for one of my most rambliest (not a real word) posts ever.

  3. Love your new header! Linda's illustrations are seriously so awesome.

And haha, my post today was about trends from back in the day. Unfortunately we didn't have a big prep scene here, since, Seattle and the grungy punk skater scene was pretty big, so I never really liked plaid/tartan until the past few years!
